Men's Water Polo Wins 2004 Cactus Classic Tournament

The Arizona Men's Water Polo Team hosted the 15th annual Cactus Classic Open Invitational Tournament this past weekend. It was an eight team tournament comprised of other collegiate club teams and master teams. The New Mexico Renegades, UC Davis Club Team, Old Pueblo Masters, Old Mission Bay Masters, Sun Devil Masters, University of New Mexico Masters, and Arizona were all in attendance.

In the first round of play the Arizona faced UC Davis Club where Arizona won 22-3. In the Wildcat's next game against the the local masters team, Old Pueblo, the Wildcats again won decisively 18-3. Arizona then faced its toughest competition when it played the seconded seeded New Mexico Renegades. The Renegades battled hard with the Wildcats, however the Wildcats' counter attack was to great; the Wildcats won 6-4. After winning the A bracket, the Wildcats faced the #2 seed in the B bracket, Old Mission Bay. The Wildcats swam Old Mission Bay up and down the pool and won in convincing fashion, 17-6. Due to the cross-over, the Wildcats again faced the New Mexico Renegades for the championship. This contest was much closer then the first and the Wildcats squeaked out a 5-4 victory over the Renegades. This is the first time in 7 years that the Wildcats have won this tournament.
