Minutes for Meeting of 09-25-96
Dear Ramblers,
Wow! What a rain storm that was yesterday! Sorry that a lot of people couldn't make it to the meeting! :-( Anyhow, we had a good time.
There were three hikes this past weekend, two to the Mount Lemmon area and one to the Imperial Sand Dunes in California. Loretta led the backpacking trip to the Lemmon Pools. The group led by Jaimee to rendezvous with Loretta left Sunday for a day-hike but, due to some unfortunate directional miscalculations, never made it that far :-)
We also saw a great slide show of the Gila Wilderness by Fred who had made numerous trips to New Mexico. Next week we will have a slide show by Loretta.
Important! There will be an eclipse trip this evening (9/26) led by Todd (326-3455). The eclipse begins officially at 6:12, almost immediately after the moon rises, and will last until around 9:30. This is a Lunar Eclipse, which means you will not need special glasses to view it. You should be able to see a brownish to golden halo around the moon which is actually caused by the Earth's atmosphere. Todd will only be able to take about 4 people, so please give him a call if you are interested. Also, you can meet at the UA Mall around 6:30 where there will be various viewing instruments available in case you don't otherwise have transportation.
Pam's Porto Lobos trip is full. Of course, if you have secured a spot and cannot make it, please contact Pam ASAP so she can place others! Pam will be giving important information at next week's meeting. Currently a departure time is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the PSC on Friday the 4th.
There is an overload trip in the works for those unable to make the Porto Lobos Trip on the 4th. This is currently scheduled for the 11th of October. Josh will be speaking more about this at the next meeting!
Loretta would like to lead a hike this Sunday, the 29th to the Tanque (or Tank-A, if you were at the meeting :-) Verde Peak in the Rincon Mountains. This hike is rated a B+/A- and will meet at the PSC at 7 a.m. Please call Loretta if interested (620-1875).
This Saturday Night (28th) Chawn will be having a party in a unique place. Please call if interested (3259178) and bring food and beverages!
Erich is planning a backpack to Miller Peak either on a Fri-Sat or a Sat-Sun. The date is tentative. Please call if interested (621-3994)
Veteran's Day is coming up soon which means a three-day weekend (11/8-11/11). Does anyone have a proposal for a backpack? Please bring your ideas to the next meeting.
Thanksgiving weekend: Loretta currently has a permit for a 4day/3night trip to the Grand Canyon for 6 people only. This backpack is rated a B+ and there will be some spelunking. There will be no sign-ups for some time.
Kristen has proposed an Ice-skating social after one of the meetings. The cost would be less than $10.00. The date is tentative.
The Phone list has been given the go-ahead. At the next meeting a phone-list sheet will be passed around. If you would not like your number on the list, do not include it.
Hope you are all having a great time!!!
See you next week in room 281!!!!
