Minutes for Meeting of 10-22-97
Meeting called to order (?!) sometime a couple minutes after 5....
Officers Present: Loretta Chase (Pres.), Wolfgang Golser(VP), BJ Cordova (Treasurer, temporary Sec'y). Absent: Bill Frobe (sec.)
Old Business/Hikes over the last week/end:
-
Ron & Ross went to the Finger Rock trail to check it out for the Bonfire camp/hike... they said it is an OK site, with plenty of fire wood. It will most likely be windy. There is relatively limited space for camping though, say about 15 people ("as long as you're not afraid of cooties..."). The site also has a nice view of Tucson's nightscape.
-
Josh & Todd went on the Browns Canyon hike in Buenos Aires Nature Refuge after all. They did manage to get 3 passes. It was reported to be
a nice canyon, with an arch (or natural bridge, whichever you prefer). The tour guide spoke about the plants and the history of the park, among
other things.
-
Wolfgang and a guest, as well as another person (different group) went to Arizona/Sonora desert museum. It was reported to be a nice hike, with lots of birds, and the usual cactus... Wolfgang and his guest also went to Saguaro Nat'l monument to check out the Tucson mountains...
-
The Onyx Cave trip did not happen because of lack of interest. It has tentatively been postponed until December 7th. Contact Kent for more information or to express interest, 795-0346.
-
Loretta bought a backpack... and it wasn't on sale! : ( So now she can go on those nice backpack trips without having to use her (broken?) old one.
-
Reminder: The Ramblers T-shirt contest is still accepting designs (please?!), so be creative and help us out... the designer of the selected
artwork will receive a complimentary shirt, and the joy and pride to know that his/her design was the winner! These designs will be due December 3,
unless otherwise noted in another posting of the minutes.
NEW BUSINESS/STUFF
(probably a bit more exciting)
-
Anyone who is going to Rocky Point this weekend should have already contacted Loretta (795-6892). A brief meeting was held after the formal meeting to discuss plans for the trip. If you have any questions or concerns about the trip, PLEASE contact her ASAP!

-
Window Rock/Ventana Canyon - Ross (623-1988) Sunday Oct. 26, meet at PSU @ 8am. It should be a long hike, rated A-.
-
Upcoming event: Bean Fest, at the East Stronghold, Dragoon Mountains, this saturday & Sun... that's all the info I've got... sounds interesting though.
-
Thanksgiving weekend: Loretta (795-6892) would like to go to Bryce canyon in Utah (nice place, but far). It should cost around $35. She will be leaving Wed. Nov. 26, probably returning on the 30th. More info to follow
-
BJ (that's me - 695-1577 or at my new e-mail address,
bcordova@ag.arizona.edu
) is planning on going on either a long day hike or an overnight camping trip in the Superstition mountains toward the end of Thanksgiving weekend (saturday and/or sunday, nov. 29/30). Anyone who would like to join me and will be in the Phoenix area, feel free to contact me. It's sounding like just a long day hike since I will have family in town but I'll try for camping. Minimal cost - there is a $4? parking fee at the trailhead, and gas money if carpooling (it's WAY out there!).
-
Anyone interested in hikes over Christmas break in the Phoenix/Tucson areas? These will probably be pretty spur of the moment, but if anyone
has plans, go ahead and speak up...
Well that's all for now, I hope these serve as a good substitute for Bill's notes. Oh, next week, we will be meeting in Cactus Lounge, rm. #283.
BJ
