Minutes for Meeting of 10-29-097
Howdy Hikers!
Meeting called to order at 5pm with all officers present.
Last week the (in)famous Rocky Point Trip led by Loretta went down
to Mexico and had a blast! Saturday was a bit chilly but it warmed up for
Sunday. There's now a gate and a $5 charge to get onto the beach Loretta
found out. Something to keep in mind for next time. Wolfgang found that
the water was nice & warm but the air was pretty cold. They didn't see
Kent's friend doing his expedition and training down there though.
On Sunday Jon and Ross hiked up to the window. They left at 9am
and still had to hike 45 minutes in the dark. Jon said it was a great day
for a hike.
One of our members went on a backpacking expedition with Outdoor
Adventures from the Rec Center. They went up to the Mazataw Mts up near
Phoenix. She said it was great fun, but cold!
If you want to volunteer some time for Fall Service Week, you're
running out of time! There's still 2 events you can volunteer for though.
On 10/30 you can take a field trip. It meets at 3:30pm on the ASUA
Bookstore Steps. And on 10/31 you can help with "Kids for Halloween."
You can trick-or-treat with the kids from the John A. Valenzuela Youth
Center or carve pumpkins with them. Points of contact are Carri or Robyn
at 626-1906 or 695-3083. That's all the info I have on the flyer.
Also it's the season to give to the 8th Annual Salvation Army
Angel Tree Program. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to man
the Angel Tree Table. Sign up sheets are available at the Project
Volunteer Office in MSU 353. The Angel Tree will be on display from 11/12
--> 12/8 in front of Cafe Sonora in the MSU. For more info contact
Project Volunteer office at 626-4906.
We also voted on the "Adopt-a-family" program. We will each
donate $1 or $2 at the next meeting. Afterwards, the officers will go
grocery shopping for a needy family with that money to provide for a good
Thanksgiving Meal.
To all creative minds: T-Shirt design deadline is Nov 12. Time
to grease up the gears and sharpen those pencils!
If anyone's interested in Onyx Cave, contact Kent. It's been
delayed to Dec 6-7 due to lack of interest. He needs 6 people who are
interested before he can get a permit.
Loretta wants to go to Bryce Canyon, Utah for Thanksgiving in the
field. She needs 5 more people in order to get a permit to camp up there.
(What is it with National Parks and the number 6 anyway?)
Reminder: Bonfire hike is coming up: 11/7. 3:30pm @ PSC.
Contact Ron (ronb@u.arizona.edu) if interested.
