Minutes for Meeting of 02-25-98

Last weekend's events:

Loretta-Last Sunday: Romero Pools- LOTS of water, gushing over the waterfall... sunny day, mild temperature, not too many people... overall,
nice hike.

Todd, Phil, et. al- Mt. Wrightson- 2-3 feet of snow--didn't make it to the top, but it was beautiful. Just a few people on the trail, but when they
got back to the parking area, there were LOTS of people there.

Wolfgang- Big surprise: Went to the desert museum as usual... but this time, the cats weren't out... visited the bears and the aviary. Also,
Wolfgant went on a hike in the Rincons on the Douglas Spring trail on Saturday--3 hr hike approx. 5 miles.

Fran- Ponnetock (sp?) Ridge (by an old Spanish mine)... and backpacking in the Tonto National forest--wilderness area... some rain

The T-shirts are pretty much through the design phase... and we have already ordered them. They will have the selected design (we don't hug trees) with
the print colors being black and green, on a natural-color 100% cotton shirt. If you would like one, please bring $10 (cash preferable, but checks OK we guess) to the next meeting, or contact Loretta at chasel@u.arizona.edu or 795-6892 for other arrangements...

Now that that is said... here are the upcoming events:

Sunday--nothing planned yet. Does anyone want to go to Picacho Peak sometime Sunday, like say 9:30ish? I just thought that would be a nice
place for a decent hike. contact B.J. (that's me) at 695-1577 or bcordova@ag.arizona.edu Havasupai Canyon (blue-green cold water, waterfalls,... 10 mile hike, NW Arizona near grand cyn. Beautiful area... kind of expensive for students, though, but well worth it in my mind. I've gone every year for the past 4. If you are interested, contact me... need to make tentative reservations about 5-6 wks in advance. Most likely leave Fri. Apr. 24 after classes, hike in Sat., Play sunday, hike out Mon. the 27th, and drive back to Tucson. Alternate date, one week later from Thursday Apr. 30 afternoon to Sunday May 3 eve. Here's the basic info:
Reservation entry fee: $15 per person Camping fee (by the waterfall) $10 per person per night * 2 nights If you want to ride a horse in or pack gear in,
Horse $50 one way / $80 round trip Helicopter $55 one way / $110 round trip (in case you die or someting...) all of this is plus 5% tax.
Gas/food $$ additional.
