Minutes for Meeting of 11-11-98
Yo,
Yesterday's meeting was a short but informative one. Two officers present and 13 members.
Last weeks activities:
-Hanna took a hike in the Superstition mountains near Phoenix over the weekend.
-Wolfgang, Erich and Wit went to Thimble peak on Saturday in the Catalinas. They made both peaks and had a great view of Tucson from there.
-Matt saw a black bear in the Santa Rita mountains this weekend as well.
Upcoming hikes:
-Loretta is leading a short backpack in the Catalinas this weekend, leaving Saturday at 10a.m from PSC. More detailed info was posted earlier on the listserve. Contact chasel@u.arizona.edu for more info.
-Mike and I are leading a trip to the Buenos Aires national wildlife refuge leaving on Saturday from PSC at 9a.m. and returning sometime on Sunday. This will be a backpack but not a very strenuous one, since the terrain is mostly flat grassland. This is one of the only ungrazed grasslands left in Arizona. It is located southwest of Tucson near the town of Arivaca, about an hour and a half drive. Rated B- contact us at 740-1579.
-We are also going to the Joshua Tree national Park for Thanksgiving, it will involve four days and 3 nights of backpacking in the Mojave desert. Our precise location hasn't been determined yet, more info to come.
-There may be a trip over thanksgiving going to Kofa national wildlife refuge as well. Hanna will be leaving from Yuma early Friday and go to Burrow Canyon and tunnel springs. Phone # 695-0859 email hanna@u.arizona.edu
-Jon is considering a trip to the White canyon for Thanksgiving, it will be a total of three days, backpack in and set up a camp, then some day hikes in the area. RSVP if interested jonh@u.arizona.edu
-Dayhike this weekend?
Next week Erich will be presenting a slide show of his journey to Europe.
That's all for now,
Phil Fenberg (Secretary)
