Minutes for Meeting of 05-26-99

Hello Ramblers!

Meeting was held with 1 official and 7 members present.

Room change for meetings: New room is Forbes: Rm 229 (while Rm 307 is being remodelled). This change may go into effect, either, next week or the week after, depending upon the beginning of the construction work. We will keep everyone informed about the exact dates.

T-Shirts: Several new ones are available at $7.50 (large and extra-large), and 3 old ones at $5.00 (large).

Jon and Hanna did a day hike on Sunday in Sycamore and Peña Blanca Canyons. They came across a pool with Sonoran Chubs inside a side canyon. Also they saw a deer, a falcon, vultures, hummingbirds, and lots of lizards. Lots of wildflowers were also blooming. They observed a wild fire about the point as it was starting.

Wolfgang did a hike this past Saturday, up to Mica Mountain, starting at the end of Speedway Blvd. It was a very good day, because it was very breezy. He started at the trailhed at exactly 7:00AM, arriving at Manning Camp at 12:10PM, and reaching the Mica Mountain Summit at 1.00PM. He returned to the trailhead at 7:00PM. The total number of miles hiked was 27 miles (43km), with an elevation change of about 6,000ft. He also saw lots of wildlife, such as 1 rattlesnake, 1 garter snake, 1 gila monster, 1 whitetail deer, 3 hawks, and a jack rabbit.

BJ did a series of hikes in the Phoenix area: Camelback Mountain, Squaw Peak, and North Mountain.
