Minutes for Meeting of 10-20-99

Hello Ramblers!

Past Hikes

  1. Liz, Kyle, and Joe did a hike in the Pinalenos, leaving on Saturday. They did a car camp, where they observed a nice sunset, and Joe saw a bear. It was windy at night. They hiked on Sunday to Heliograph Peak. Joe returned to Shannon Park; Liz and Kyle followed the trail down to the Arcadia campsite. They saw different varieties of pine, aspen, and collared lizards.
  2. Hanna did a trip in the Santa Rita mountains, in the southern part of the range, up Gardner Canyon. She also went birding in the Sonoita Creek Preserve. She saw a pelican, but not too many birds, and several deer.
  3. Wolfgang was at the Boyce Thompsom Arboretum, which was an interesting place to see exotic plants from the Sonoran Desert and the world. Especially interesting were the cactuses from Arizona/Mexico, Africa, and South America.
  4. Ryan did a hike through a canyon, called "the Jug", near Theodore Roosevelt Lake, in the Sierra Anchas Mountains, about 3 hours north of Tucson. There was lots of swimming and climbing, with some rapelling.
