Minutes for Meeting of 11-3-99

Greeting Ramblers!

Announcements:

1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.

2.) The revised web site is now available at the usual URL: www.biocom.arizona.edu/~ramblers    Your feedback and suggestions are as welcome as ever. Please direct comments to the Webmaster link on the main page. Please note, especially, the new sections of photographs taken on hikes. If anyone has any relevant photographs that can be scanned or are willing to have scanned, please do contact us. The old pages are preserved as backups to a CD-ROM, as "before and after" backup archives. I also want to thank Kyle for an excellent job.

3.) We will be having our annual philanthropy activity, purchasing food for a needy family in Tucson--through the Adopt-A-Family program and Parent Aid.  If you would like to help out, please bring a few dollars to next week's meeting (11/10).

4.) Also, next week's meeting & for the rest of the semester, will be held in Forbes 307.  Signs will be posted in case you forget!

Past Hikes:

1.) Wolfgang did a 9 1/2 mile hike on Sunday to Wasson Peak in the Tucson Mountains, going via the Sendero Esperanza, Sweetwater, and Hugh Norris Trails. It was a very pleasant day, with very few people encountered on that hike.

2.) Wit did some interesting hikes in the Bear Wallow, Prison Camp, and Cienega Creek Preserve areas on Sunday.

3.) Liz and Kyle did a pleasant day hike in the Cave Creek area of the Chiricahua Mountains on Sunday. They saw colorful Aspens, deer, and fish.

4.) Andrea did a hike in Saguaro National Park East this weekend, where she saw a tortoise.

5.) Hanna went on a day hike this past Tuesday in the Bear Wallow area in the Santa Catalinas.

6.) Jon and 4 others went, on Saturday, to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and White Canyon. Inside White Canyon, they hiked into areas, where they previously hiked, noticing how big boulders had moved, since.

7.) There was someone (didn't quite get his name), who did a day hike in the Marshal Gulch area of the Santa Catalinas this past weekend.

Future Hikes:

1.)    Wolfgang is leading a hike to Sycamore Canyon, near the Mexican border, Saturday (11/6/1999). Departure is from the Park Student Center @ 8:00AM. Rated "B". Contact Wolfgang at: wolfgang@u.arizona.edu. As far as vehicles are concerned, if more people are going, it would be good to have a couple more drivers.

2.)    A very possible Thanksgiving trip into the Kofa Wildlife Refuge and Mountains/Castle Dome area is bing planned.

Feel free to announce any additional hikes, trips, or updates to trips on the listserve. Keep Rambling!

Wolfgang
