Minutes for Meeting of 1-5-2000

Announcements:

1.) The 1st meeting of the year had 1 officer and 3 other members present.
2.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.
3.) Also, future meetings, for the new year, will continue to be held in Forbes 307. Signs will be posted in case you forget!

Past Hikes:

1.) Paul, Ethan (Paul's brother), and Erich did a backpacking trip for 3 days to Mundo Perdido, which is in the Baboquivari Mountains. Mundo Perdido is a peak, which is almost as high as Baboquivari Peak. The trip involved a lot of scratchy bushwhacking.
2.) Wolfgang went on a trip to Texas, starting at Big Bend National Park on the Rio Grande. On Christmas Day, he hiked in the Sierra del Carmen Mountains, soaked in some hot springs, and hiked inside Santa Elena Canyon. He saw 2 coyote and several jack rabbits. He continued to Corpus Christie, Texas, where he spent the day hiking the beaches of Padre Island National Seashore. He observed lots of gulls, several pelicans, sandpipers, and a coyote. He continued east, stopping in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he visited the Civil War Battlefield of Vicksburg. Then came the long drive west, where he spent New Year's eve and part of New Year's day in Guadaloupe National Park in Texas.

Future hikes:

1.) Several present at the meeting did express an interest in doing a day hike on Sunday. The list serve is available for posing announcements for any hikes of interest.
