Minutes for Meeting of 05-10-2000

Hello Ramblers!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.

2.) Future hiking club meetings, until the end of this semester, will continue to be held in Forbes 307. Signs will be posted in case you forget!

ANNOUNCEMENTS: CLUB PROPERTY:

Ross Lampert, the gear warden for the club, is asking that members return ALL borrowed equipment, since he is conducting an inventory of club property. It is important to contact Ross @ 325-5912, so that arrangements can be made to return equipment.

Joe Leisz is the librarian for the club, taking care of "The Box", containing maps, hiking guidebooks, etc. If anyone wants to return or borrow stuff, see Joe after the meetings each Wednesday or drop by his office (Forbes: Room 325) to check things out as needed, or contact Joe @ 621-9783 or E-mail: jleisz@ag.arizona.edu.

PAST HIKES:

1.) Wolfgang did a short day hike this past Saturday in Madera Canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains, going up the canyon and down the Super Trail, which was a perfect hike for his out of town visitors.

2.) Steve and Massimo went on a hike on the Butterfly and Davis Spring Trails, passing Pictograph Spring, and continuing up the Knagge Trail.

3.) Michael hiked up Newman Peak in the Picacho Mountains on Saturday.

FUTURE HIKES:

1.) There is a trip to the Mule Shoe Ranch (southeastern part of the Galiuro Mountains) being planned for the 1st weekend after finals (5/13&14/2000), which will involve some volunteer work and a hike to some hot springs. Contact Andy: andy.odell@nau.edu, since there are 2 spaces still available.

2.) There is an Arizona Trails Hike (5/20&21/2000) being planned. The plan is to do the Oracle Ridge Trail in the northern part of the Santa Catalinas. Since registrations need to be submitted, if anyone is interested, please contact Hanna @ hanna@u.arizona.edu or Steve @ sanewcomb@yahoo.com.

3.) There is a "San Fransisco Mountains Anniversary Hike" in the Flagstaff area being planned for the 4th of July weekend. Contact Andy: andy.odell@nau.edu.

5.) Hanna is interested in leading a trip to the West Clear Creek Wilderness for the Memorial Day weekend (5/27-29/2000). Contact Hanna @ hanna@u.arizona.edu.

6.) Hanna is planning a backpacking trip to the Wind River Range in Wyoming, which would be some time during the summer. Contact Hanna @ hanna@u.arizona.edu.

MISCELLANEOUS OUTDOORS INFORMATION:

1.) There is a web site (free), providing topographic maps of the US: http://www.topozone.com. There is other topographic information, along with statistical information about routes to take also available. Contact Steve: sanewcomb@yahoo.com.

2.) Another good web site, providing a fun resource: http://www.soak.net.
