Minutes for Meeting of 05-17-2000
Hello Ramblers!
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes
is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.
2.) Future hiking club meetings, during the summer, will continue to be
held in the Forbes building lobby, in case Forbes, Room 307, isn't
available.
PAST HIKES:
1.) A group of six volunteers (Andy, Hanna, Massimo, Steve, Jeanie and Mercedes) spent the weekend at The Nature Conservancy's Muleshoe Ranch in the Galiuro Mts., AZ. The trip accomplished removing a barbwire corral fence and pulling up a patch of non-native plants. On Sunday members hiked the Bass Canyon route and relaxed at the visitor's center.
FUTURE HIKES:
1.) The Arizona Trail hike along Oracle Ridge Trail in the Catalinas has been postponed to the near future to try and round up more participants. Since the entire ridge trail is almost 14 miles long with 3200 ft elevation, it would be ideal to either have parties start from each end and exchange keys, have a car shuttle, or make it an overnighter. Contact Hanna hanna@u.arizona.edu.
2.) Although no specific hike was decided for this weekend (May 20-21) several members expressed interest in doing a local day hike, perhaps in the Santa Ritas. Post any ideas on the listserve if you are headed out.
3.) There is a "San Fransisco Mountains Anniversary Hike" in the Flagstaff
area being planned for the 4th of July weekend. Contact Andy:
andy.odell@nau.edu.
4.) Hanna is reconsidering a trip to the West Clear Creek Wilderness for the Memorial Day weekend (5/27-29/2000). Contact Hanna for the latest plans: hanna@u.arizona.edu.
5.) Hanna is planning a backpacking trip to the Wind River Range in
Wyoming, which would be some time during the summer. Contact Hanna @
hanna@u.arizona.edu.
6.) Massimo is interested in submitting a permit request for a trip into the Grand Canyon during the month of October. This would be done in June to take advantage of the 4 month permit limit. Contact him if you are interested in the trip or if you have suggestions: malagoli@u.arizona.edu.
Have a good summer!
