Minutes for Meeting of 06-07-2000

Hello Ramblers!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.

2.) Future hiking club meetings, during the summer, will continue to be held in the Forbes building lobby, in case Forbes, Room 307, isn't available.

PAST HIKES:

1.) Hanna, Massimo, Torsten, Michael, & Michael went to West Clear Creek last weekend. The 2 cars got split up, so each group went to different parts of the canyon. There was lots of swimming, and they saw lots of river life, including trout, crawdads, and a heron. They stopped at Montezuma's Castle & Montezuma Well the next day. Massimo & both Michaels decided to explore Wet Beaver Creek as well.

2.) Last Thursday, BJ and others went to Mt. Lemmon, intending to hike, but they got rained out. It also hailed on them.

FUTURE HIKES:

1.) Ross is taking over leadership of the Oracle Ridge trip this weekend. The plans (which may alter due to fire conditions) are to leave PSU at 5 AM on Saturday morning, and return the next day in the evening. The trip is rated "B". All who are interested please contact Ross Lampert.

2.) On Saturday the week from next (6/17), there will be a day hike to Mt. Wrightson via Gardner Canyon, leaving at 6 AM from PSU. This hike is rated "A-". It involves a long, steep, trail hike, with nice forest along the way, and impressive views (and somewhat cooler temperatures, one hopes) at the top (of Tucson to the north, Mexico to the south). Please contact Hanna (hanna@u.arizona.edu)

3.) The Flagstaff trip (7/1-74) is being led by Michael Chaimberlan. Right now the plan is to do a series of day hikes & crash at Andy's house at night. If you are interested, RSVP to Michael chamb@u.arizona.edu for details.

MISCELLANEOUS OUTDOORS INFORMATION:

1.) There is a web site (free), providing topographic maps of the US: http://www.topozone.com. There is other topographic information, along with statistical information about routes to take also available. Contact Steve: sanewcomb@yahoo.com.

2.) Another good web site, providing a fun resource: http://www.soak.net.

If anyone wants to post additional announcements for any hikes, etc., please feel free to use the listserve. Meanwhile, keep Rambling!

That's it for today, folks. Have fun!

Hanna A. Coy

Note from Steve: Sorry I haven't been updating the minutes on the website. I was gone for 3 weeks and should have had someone fill in for me.
