Minutes for Meeting of 09-13-2000
Hello Ramblers!
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes
is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.
2.) Future hiking club meetings, during the summer, will continue to be
held in the Forbes building lobby, in case Forbes, Room 307, isn't available.
ANNOUNCEMENTS CONCERNING ELECTION:
Elections were held at todays meeting, and Eric Shiers has been elected as
the Club's treasurer to replace BJ. Congratulations!
ANNOUNCEMENTS CONCERNING COURSE:
There is a Desert Skills & Ecology Course being offered. For anyone, who is
interested, the information is as follows:

Hi,
My name is Tony Nester and I operate a Wilderness Skills School in
Flagstaff. I just wanted to drop a line to your hiking club about a 2-day
course on Desert Skills & Ecology, held in Phoenix on November 4-5. This
will be a hands-on course focusing on: Sonoran Desert Plant Uses, Water
Location Methods for Arid Environments, Primitive Firemaking Skills, Desert
Survival Skills, Mammal Track Identification, and Weaving with Yucca. The
cost is $150 and includes a hearty, Dutch-oven dinner, all course
materials, and Park camping fees. The cost for students is $125. McDowell
Mt. Park is where the course will be held. If you would like more

PAST HIKES:
1.) Robbie did a hike in Pima Canyon this past Sunday.
2.) Hanna lead a group of 16 people to Lemmon Pools in the Santa Catalinas
this past Saturday. They enjoyed relaxing and swimming in the pools.
3.) Wolfgang did a short hike in the Saguaro National Park East, Sunday
morning. He saw a Gila monster.
4.) 8 people went on Hiroko's hike to the Lemmon Lookout and the Arizona
Trail, in the Santa Catalinas.
FUTURE HIKES:
1.) Hanna is leading a day hike to Hutch's Pool (Santa Catalina Mountains)
this Saturday (9/16/2000) @ 7:00AM. Rated "C+". If interested, contact

2.) Robbie is leading a day hike in Madera Canyon in the Santa Rita
Mountains on Saturday (9/23/2000). Contact Robbie: hannawacker@hotmail.com.
3.) Robbie is interested in leading a trip up to the Vermillion
Cliffs/Pariah Wilderness in northern Arizona, during the Thanksgiving
weekend. Rated "A", since this is a "Kick-A** Hike". Contact Robbie:

3.) Michael is leading a trip to Pariah Wilderness/Buckskin Gulch Canyon in
northern Arizona, during the Veterans Day weekend. The basic plan is to
leave Friday (11/10/2000) and return Monday (11/13/2000). Contact Michael

4.) Hanna is leading a trip to the Pinacate National Park in Mexico and the
Castle Dome Mountains in Arizona, during Christmas time, for 6 days -
possibly more). If interested, contact Hanna: hanna@u.arizona.edu.
5.) Hanna is interested in leading a beginner's backpacking trip to the
Santa Rita Mountains, around October 14/15. Rated "C". If interested,
contact Hanna: hanna@u.arizona.edu.
6.) Another backpacking trip is also being planned for the Grand Canyon.
The dates are from Friday (12/15/2000) to Wednesday (12/20/2000). The
backpack will be down the Bright Angel Trail and to Indian Gardens and

7.) Michael is leading a trip to the Gila Box, north of Safford, later in
September. It still remains to be determined if it will be the weekend of
September 23/24 or September 30/October 1. Would be, either, a car camp or

ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING AIDS WALK:
There is an AIDS walk Scheduled for a Saturday in October with information,
as follows:

Hello all,
I'm going to be doing the AIDS walk 2000 on Saturday, the 22nd of October.
It's a 10K (there's also a 4K) and starts at 9am, I think. Is anyone
interested in forming a team with me? Please let me know.
