Minutes for Meeting of 11-01-2000

Hello Ramblers!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.) Important: Unless otherwise announced, the meeting place for all hikes is behind the Park Student Center, in the parking lot.

2.) Future hiking club meetings, during the summer, will continue to be held in the Forbes building lobby, in case Forbes, Room 307, isn't available.

Just a few announcements to make. Sorry if I missed some.

Past Hikes:

*Micheal described his hike to Devil's Canyon last Saturday. They did not leave on Friday as expected, because of the poor weather conditions. On Saturday, there was difficulty in finding a manageable road to take to the Canyon, and they ended up exploring the upper end of the Canyon. They followed along side a creek bed that had many thorny shrubs, poison ivy, and some waterfalls. Although they did not make it to the pools as hoped, they got to see devil-like rock formations on the Canyon walls. (Devil's Canyon is just east of Superior AZ.)

*Last Saturday, Micheal Chamberland hiked Blackett's Ridge. From there, he observed storm clouds breaking. On Sunday he hiked Bear Canyon to Seven Falls. Since he had to cross the waist high stream numerous times, few others were seen on his trip. Micheal observed great views since the air was very clear.

FUTURE HIKES:

*This Saturday, I will be leading a nature-hike into Pima Canyon. It is rated a C hike. We will be leaving at 8:00 am from the Park Student Union. We should be back early afternoon. Contact: hannawacker@hotmail.com

*This Sunday, Aaron Schulze will be leading a day hike in the Santa Rita Mountains to Mt. Wrightson. Ramblers will leave the Park Student Union at 8:00 am. Aaron expects that the return time should be later in the day. Contact Aaron Schulze: aschultz@u.arizona.edu

*Hanna is interested in organizing a trip to the Nature Conservancy's Mule Shoe Ranch to spend half of the time volunteering to do such things as removing brush, clean up, painting, and pulling exotic plants. On free time doing some hiking, soaking in the natural hot springs. This will be a 2 or 3 night activity, and TNC has dormitories to stay in. Contact Hanna by the middle of next week: hanna@u.arizona.edu

*Thursday Nov 9th at 5pm, The famous naturalist and writer Alison Deming will be giving a poetry reading at the Nature Club's meeting in Forbes 307 (same room as ramblers).

*Friday Nov 10th, I am having a birthday party at my place at 6pm. It will be a potluck BBQ. If you have a BBQ'er, please bring it. My address is: Meadow View Apartments 601 East Lee apartment 1. Contact Robbie: hannawacker@hotmail.com
