Minutes for Meeting of 09-26-2001

GENERAL INFORMATION:
  • The Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Building in room 307.
  • All hikes, unless otherwise stated, will met for departure in the parking lot behind the Park Student Union. After 8pm on Friday the lot is available all weekend for general use.
PAST HIKES:
  • Susan did a nice hike to Finger Rock this past Sunday afternoon. After joining forces with another lone hiker she watched the windstorm that blew through Tucson. The only wildlife observed were some lizards and birds.
  • Wolfgang, two weeks ago, went wildlife tracking with the Sky Island Alliance. Although his group didn't have as much luck as others it was an overall good trip. Observed Flora and Fauna included horned lizards, garter snakes, grasshoppers and sunflowers.
  • Ross, and four others, hiked to the summit of Mt. Wrightson this past Sunday. The trail of choice was Old Baldy. Besides observing a beautiful sunset, they saw a bearcub minus his mother in the trail above Baldy Saddle.
  • Steve went hiking at seven Falls early Sunday morning. There was still water present in the area he hiked but no significant wildlife except some rabbits, a dead snake and the ever present lizard.
  • Eric went camping on Mt. Graham. It was cold and there weren't many people but that's what made it oh so nice. He classified it as a "pleasant retreat."
FUTURE HIKES:
  • Robbie needs a volunteer with a car for a hike Friday,September 28th. This hike is a Nature club production but there aren't enough transport vehicles. If someone would be willing to drive then they could come on this lovely sunset hike to Desert Peak. It will be departing PSU at 5pm. An RSVP is required. You can contact Robbie by phone or email. 792-0970, robbie@email.arizona.edu
  • Michael is planning a technical "A" backpacking trip in the Escalante region. This trip would leave either October 11 or 12 and then return the 14 or 15. Michael has already, (or is going to),send detailed information about this hike to the listserv.
