Minutes for Meeting of 05-01-2002
GENERAL INFORMATION:
-
The Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Building in
room 307.
-
All hikes, unless otherwise stated, will meet for departure in the parking
lot behind the Park Student Union. After 8pm on Friday the lot is available
all weekend for general use.
PAST HIKES:
-
Susan and Steven tried out their new backpacks Friday night. They hiked
and camped in Pima Canyon and had a great time. The weather was wonderful
and they saw lots of birds. The only things that weren't completely enjoyable
were some overpowering sun-dried tomatoes and a strange grunting sound Friday
night.
-
Ross, on Monday, woke up extremely early and went with Hanna to Catalina
State Park. While Hanna was birding, Ross did some hiking on the Bridle and
Romero Trail. He saw some woodpeckers, Arizona Cardinals and doves. Hanna
didn't find what she was looking for as they had all migrated. She did however
see a roadrunner and some cardinals. On Sunday they both did some hiking
around Rose Canyon Lake. However, after all the dredging recently and the
lack of rain there was only about 1 liter of water in the entire thing.
FUTURE HIKES:
-
Hanna has decided that her backpacking trip to the Lagunas will be from
20-26 of May. She would like to spend 3-4 days backpaking along the PCT and
then spend the remaining days at the beach. The exact route is still to be
determined so if you are interested email her ASAP and tell her what time
of day you would like to leave. Her email is
hanna@u.arizona.edu.
-
Susan is planning a hike along the Atascosa Lookout Trail on Saturday.
The trail is near Pena Blanca Lake and is supposedly very beautiful. There
is an elevation change from 4700-6294 ft and the hike takes approximately
3hrs. She is leaving PSU at 9:15 Saturday morning and plans to return around
4. Bring lunch.
-
Ross is planning a hike for Sunday but isn't sure of what it will be
so watch the listserv for more details.
