Minutes for Meeting of 08-14-2002

Howdy Ramblers,

  • Meetings still take place every Wednesday @ 5PM in the Forbes building room # 307. Our typical campus area meeting spot for hikes is still behind the Park Student Union (PSU).
  • Ramblers Hiking Club gear is available for use if needed by anyone. We have stoves, sleeping bags, mats, a lantern, etc. We should be improving our gear and attaining new items in the coming weeks.
  • ELECTIONS will be coming up soon after the start of the Fall semester.
Past Hikes:
  • Will led a hike on Sunday to Sabino Canyon with Katie and Georghio. They spotted a small gray rodent-sized animal that they concluded might have been a "chupacabra".
  • Will took a long trip last week to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon where he hiked for a couple of days and saw abundant wildlife, particularly porcupine. He almost hit a deer in his car as well. He camped under the Vermillion Cliffs near Soap creek around Page, Arizona. He stopped in Flagstaff on the way back and saw a bear on Humphrey's Peak which he had climbed to the top of.
  • Wolfgang went on several day hikes in Saguaro East and West during the forest closures. He saw rattlesnakes and other species of snakes. Recently he went up Florida Canyon. This past Saturday he hiked the Wilderness of Rocks trail from Marshall Gulch to Lemmon Lookout past the ski area and back. He did a similar hike near Summerhaven to Romero Pass three weeks ago.
  • Massimo went to Lemmon Pools on Sunday with friends. They took the Wilderness of Rocks trail and had pie in Summerhaven afterwards.
  • Last Thursday's movie, "GiGi", was funny. They ate vegi-stirfry.

This Thursday's movie will be "Annie Hall". It is a Woody Allen flick. We will once again meet at Ross' place (111 W. 17th St.) at 5pm on Thursday for food and beverage. He hasn't decided what to make for dinner yet, but he made some of his famous chocolate cream pie for dessert. Hope to see you all there!
