Minutes for Meeting of 09-04-2002
HOWDY RAMBLERS-
Congratulations to our new Vice President and Treasurer, Erin Gleeson
and Liz Carroll! Dan Carroll and I(Mary Triplett) are serving again as your
president and secretary.
PAST HIKES:
-
Melissa, over the summer, did some backpacking in Belize. She camped
on a desolate island for a week and went snorkeling in the second largest
barrier reef in the world.
-
Sarah, attended the National Outdoor Leadership school in Wyoming this
past summer. They did some deep snow hiking, as there was plenty left in
early June. She acquired lots of interesting skills and observed some elk
and bears (from a distance).
-
Ashley, spent two weeks backpacking in Wyoming during the summer. The
trip went well except for having to carry out an injured fellow hiker.
-
Dan, led a hike to the football game this past Saturday night. Definitely
an A+ hike.
-
Sonia, hiked for two weeks along the Tahoe Rim Trail this past summer.
It was a very beautiful area and an enjoyable hike.
-
Ross and his faithful followers dared to experience the Hitchcock film,
"Strangers on a Train", last Thursday.
-
Bill hiked up (and down) Mt. Wrightson by the
Baldy Trail on Monday. The weather was good all the way up and down
as far as Baldy Saddle, but humid and oppressive on the north side of
the mountain. Rain threatened in the afternoon but stayed west of the
range. There are now two rock squirrels on top, and they have learned
to scavenge; the smaller one grabbed a sandwich bag with his cookies
in it and attempted to abscond with it. He also saw a doe mule deer on
the trail between Bellows Spring and Josephine Saddle.
FUTURE HIKES:
-
Ross, is hosting his weekly movie night Thursday. Meet at his house
between 5 and 7pm for some food and beverage and then it's off to the picture
show featuring "Night of the Hunter" (of which he knows nothing
about). Ross lives at 111 W. 17th Street. You need not be formally
acquainted with Ross to attend. If you desire more details he can be
reached at 241-2022.
-
Joe is planning to lead a hike to Lemmon Pools this Sunday. Meet at
8am in the parking lot of PSU (Park Student Union). Bring lunch, H20 and
swimwear. Be aware of the weather and if deemed necessary bring raingear.
He plans to be back by four. The hike is rated C+. That means it's not too
hard, no experience necessary.

will be served beginning at 9am. If you would like to lead campus plant tours
