Minutes for Meeting of 09-25-2002

HOWDY RAMBLERS-
  • Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Bldg. in room 307.
  • Hikes meet in the parking lot behind Park Student Union (PSU) unless otherwise stated. During the weekend these spaces are available for public use.
Don't worry if you don't have a car. We carpool from PSU.
PAST HIKES:
  • Mike and Erin took a moonlight hike to Seven Falls this past weekend. They left at 3am and loitered around the falls for about an hour. Mike got some very nice photographs and there were lots of bats, toads and one bunny to accompany them.
  • Darcy was hiking in Sedona last weekend on Bell Rock. It was a great hike, a little warm but nicer than it would have been in Tucson. She didn't see any animals but did come upon some nice agave.
  • Corrina accompanied Hanna and Lenny to the Huachucas last weekend. They camped near Miller Peak Saturday night and began the ascent up Miller Peak around 9am Sunday morning. They returned to their campsite around 6pm and from there headed back to Tucson. The campsite Saturday night was cool (as in temperature).
  • Sarah spent the weekend camping on Mt. Lemmon with Camp Wildcat. It was a great experience.
  • Sonja did some hiking on Mt.Lemmon Saturday. She began on the Marshall Gulch Trail and then lost it (the trail that is). She found the Aspen trail and then followed the road out. This took her to October Fest in Summerhaven where, disappointingly enough, they were serving boring domestic beer. They did have some interesting German folk music.
  • Erin and a few others went on a sunset hike in the Tucsons last weekend. It was pretty short and there weren't any animals scampering about at this time of night. They did get to see quite a few shooting stars.
  • Jessie and some others did some hiking on Mt. Lemmon Sunday. They hiked near the area that was ravaged by fire but they don't remember the name of the trail.
FUTURE HIKES:
  • Joe will be leading a hike on Sunday to and around Tanque Verde Falls in the Reddington Pass area. He will be leaving PSU at about 8am and should return around 2 or 3pm. Bring lots of water, whatever you swim in and sunscreen. Good gripping hiking shoes and lunch are a plus too.
  • Darcy and Brad are leading a hike to Mt. Wrightson on Sunday. If you are interested in camping near Mt. Wrightson Saturday night then contact Brad. Otherwise, they will be meeting at 4:30am Sunday morning at PSU. Bring water, lunch, breakfast and sunscreen. Brad can be contacted at mistabrad@yahoo.com.
  • Kippy will be leading a hike to Reddington Pass on Saturday. He will be meeting at PSU at 9am and returning around 2pm. If you have any questions contact him at kingkippy@aol.com.
  • Will is planning to climb mt. wrightson this Saturday. It's about 1 hour from tucson, and he would like to meet at 9AM at psu. You should be back around 6. Please rsvp to williamnelson@earthlink.net and let him know if you have a car.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Movie Night, tonight, will begin at Ross's house at 111 West 17th St. You can arrive between 5pm and 7pm for food and drink. Around 7:30 there will be a short hike with negligible elevation change to La Placita, where "Harvey" will be featured. For more information call Ross at 241-2022.
