Minutes for Meeting of 12-11-2002

HOWDY RAMBLERS-
-Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Bldg. in room 307.

-Hikes meet in the parking lot behind Park Student Union (PSU) unless
otherwise stated. During the weekend these spaces are available for public
use.

-Don't worry if you don't have a car. We carpool from PSU.

PAST HIKES:
-Wolfgang, a few weeks ago, did a hike in the Pontatoc area. He rendezvoused
for a bit at the cave with another Ramblers hiking group. The cave, really
an old copper mine, was really interesting. Wolfgang noticed that both azurite
and malacite, two minerals, were growing there. During the Thanksgiving break
Wolfgang hiked in the Dragoons. It rained off and on but nothing serious.
He saw one Turkey Vulture.

-Steve hiked Miller Canyon in the Huachucas last Saturday. The trail
was pretty steep and at the top there was an old-fashoined bathtub (there
is a spring). The scenery was nice, there were quite a few deciduous trees
and a 5-10 year old burned out area.

-Ross and 26 others held a fee demonstration last weekend. They got a
few people to pull over and ask why they were protesting, which is always
good during a demo. Overall, the demonstration went well.

FUTURE HIKES:

-Hanna is in the process of planning a ski trip for winter break, possibly
Dec. 27th-29th. If you like the idea but the dates do not work for you then
please email Hanna to see if her schedule works with yours. Right now there
are two options. 1)Downhill skiing at Sunrise in the White Mountains. This
would include camping on the drive up and down. Fees would include a full
or half-day lift ticket aprox $35, rentals if needed aprox $20, and gas money.
Option 2)Cross country skiing at Hannigan's Meadow, east of Sunrise. For
this trip there is a possibility of staying in the lodge at Hannigan's Meadow.
The fees for this trip would include rentals if needed, gas money, and a
split price of lodging or camping. Please email Hanna if any of this sounds
like something you would like to do. Hanna's email: haacoy@yahoo.com

-Steve is planning a hot spring expedition. He would like to leave next
Friday, Dec. 20th and return by dusk Sunday. Hot Springs to be visited include
Keiser Spring (AZ),Gold Strike Spring (NV), and White Rock Canyon Spring
(AZ). He will be sending more detailed info to the listserv.
