Minutes for Meeting of 04-16-2003

HOWDY RAMBLERS-
-Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Bldg. in room 307.
-FYI: THE PARKING LOT BEHIND PARK STUDENT UNION IS CLOSED DUE TO
CONSTRUCTION
(IMAGINE THAT) SO SPECIFIC MEETING PLACES WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE HIKE
LEADER.
-Don't worry if you don't have a car. We carpool from our meeting place.
PAST HIKES:
-Hanna had an eventful weekend as she backpacked along the Douglass Spring
Trail and camped at the spring. The weather was beautiful and she saw a lot
of toads enjoying the water. She also saw a Poorwill, a snake, some Scott?s
Orioles, and a hummingbird with a nest full of eggs.
-Will and four other Ramblers hiked up to Atascosa Lookout on Saturday.
They saw the famous outhouse and enjoyed the wonderful view. They did not
see an abundance of wildlife, although they spotted an oriole.
-Curvin explored Gardner Canyon on Saturday, as a part of Geos Day. He
saw some frogs at a few of the pools but nothing too remarkable. On Sunday,
he climbed up to Atascosa Peak and looked at some agates that had formed
in some of the crevices. A garter snake and a deer were the only wildlife
he saw.
-Jean-Paul went caving at the Mogollon Rim last weekend. There was running
water, a bunch of salamanders and a few frogs. Later, he went down and explored
the Cienga Creek area.
-Steve joined a group of Ramblers that went to the free caving night
at Colossal Caves last Friday night. They searched for fossils in the depths
of the cave but unfortunately they did not have any luck.
FUTURE HIKES:
-Hanna will be doing research on Friday and Saturday April 18-19th from
noon until noon. Her research will take place on Tumamoc Hill and will consist
of taking photosynthesis measurements every hour. She will be camping out
there on Friday night. If you would like to come and join her for any amount
of time then contact her @ haacoy@yahoo.com or just show up.
-Dan will be hosting a Pool Party and BBQ for all the Ramblers at his
apartment complex this Saturday, April 19th. The fun will begin at 3pm and
will last until everyone either passes out or goes home. Dan will provide
some meat for the BBQ and some alcoholic beverages, HOWEVER, if you have
special food needs or you plan on drinking a lot of beer, then bring your
own food and drinks. It wouldn?t hurt for everyone to bring a few snack items
as well, or any half full liquor bottles taking up space in your cabinet.
Dan lives in the Promontory Apartment Complex that is located on Stone Loop.
If you are traveling west on River you would make a right turn onto Stone
which then becomes Stone Loop. His apartment complex (Promontory) will then
be apparent and if you take the first entrance into the complex you can park
near the office and you will see the pool. If no one is there then drive
north through the complex until you come upon a second pool. If you still
can?t find us then we are hiding from you because we don?t like you (joking).

like to spend any amount of time hiking, camping, and exploring Alaska this
summer, and you can transport yourself to Seward's Folly (the state of Alaska)
please feel free to check out Curvin's website and contact him to set up
some trips. www.redundancydept.com.
