Minutes for Meeting of 05-28-2003

HOWDY RAMBLERS-

-Ramblers meet every Wednesday at 5pm in the Forbes Bldg. in room 307.
-Our new meeting place is the rock wall across the street from the east
side of Tyndall Parking Garage. Here is a map of the location
http://clubs.arizona.edu/~ramblers/wall.html
-Don't worry if you don't have a car. We carpool from our meeting place.

PAST HIKES:

	- Loretta led 5 Ramblers (Hanna, Steve, Lenny and Tammy) through the
West Fork of Oak Creek, starting at the intersection of Forest Road 231 and
the West Fork. The upper section was mostly dry except for 5 or 6 pools that
had to be swam through, several deeper than 6 feet. Floating the packs on
thermarests worked the best. Lenny showcased the latest swimsuit fashions from
the Ukraine and Steve cooked up some mean garlic fry bread. Everyone agreed
it was well worth the effort.

FUTURE HIKES:

-Steve has a trip for this weekend:
Canyoneering Season (for me!) has just started and the first trip will
be a 2 day backpack/canyoneering trip in the Santa Catalina Mts. First
day we will hike up Sabino Canyon along the Phoneline Trail, then the
East Fork Trail to a point on the ridge between Sabino and Bear. Second
day we will canyoneer down a drainage into Bear Canyon, then down Bear
Canyon to 7 Falls. Depending on the situation there, we will continue
until below the falls, then hike out on the trail. This route may
involve a 100+ ft rappel and swimming through pools.
People interested in the backpack only may join and hike along the Bear
Canyon trail while we canyoneer. Total miles is approx. 14 miles.
Email me if interested: sanewcomb@yahoo.com Sorry for the late posting.

-Hanna is interested in doing a backpacking trip over 4th of July weekend
in Southern Colorado. It would be 2-3 days depending on everyone's schedule.
This is a trip that could be coordinated with a road trip and other hiking
excursions as there are many areas on the drive up through N. Arizona, S.
Utah and Colorado that offer various recreational opportunities. More details
will be provided once interest has been expressed. Contact Hanna at
haacoy@yahoo.com.
