Minutes for Meeting of 10-15-2003
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th MINUTES:
HELLO RAMBLERS!
FUTURE HIKES:
1) On Saturday Steve might go up to Willow Canyon (Seven Cataracts area) for a
canyoneering trip. The canyon dumps into Seven Falls. This would be about a
half day excursion. However, a canyoneering trip up to Mount Gram is also
possible, especially if Matt decides he wants to go. No one has ever done this
route before and it would require a full day. I would email Steve about the
possibilities...His email is sanewcomb@yahoo.com
2) Steve is planning an expedition on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon
for the spring break week. A rugged 50 mile hike over 9 days,
the trip is not for everyone. If you have advanced backcountry skills
and can operate independently, see Steve at a meeting or on one of his
hikes to talk about it.
3) Hanna is looking into renting a U van or truck for a trip to
Pinacate, Mexico over a three day weekend, possibly over the Martin Luther
King weekend Jan 17-19, 2004. Just a heads up, more info about the trip will
come up in later meetings.
PAST HIKES:
1) Hanna went up to the Zuni Mtn.s of New Mexico on a field trip. She saw the
oldest Douglas fir (1300 yrs old), as well as volcanoes, and ice caves.
2) Steve went up French Joe Canyon in the Whetstones, around Benson. There
isn't
much hiking, but alot of good camping. About a mile and a 1/2 of good trail is
accessible. This is in the area of French Joe Spring where you can actually
collect fresh water, I beleive...
3) A few of us went up to Sabino. Aisling went on Sunday and swam in the creek
about 3.5 miles up. Good amount of water from the rain last week!!! Also, a
midnight trip was made on Saturday's full moon, but i cant remember the name of
the guy who went (sorry.)
