Minutes for Meeting of 01-21-2004
Welcome to the Spring Semester All. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves
over Winter Break and are ready to begin another wonderful semester....
PAST HIKES:
**Six of the ramblers ventured down to Mexico to the Pinacate area last
weekend, where there's an amazing volcanic reserve. They noted that a good
vehicle is required if you plan on doing a trip to the area. The group saw two of
the main craters. We all got to view some great slides from the trip (Thanks
Steve).
**Wolfgang went on a trip with the Southern Az Hiking Club last weekend
to Franel (I'm really not sure if I'm right on that one) and Rio Canyon,
areas with tons of quartz. He also ventured to some of the burned out areas
such as Esperero and Bear Canyon, as well as Prison Camp. And over the break he
spent some time in Joshua Tree and hiked around there.
**I attempted to hike King Canyon trail up to the top of Wasson's Peak,
but only got about 1 1/2 miles into the trail when a friend got horrible cramps.
But we are determined to make it out there again soon.
**I'm really sorry if I screw up your name, but Kerbin (???) went on a
different trip to the Pinacate's. Traveled down a narrow canyon where there were
suppossed streams. He also got to see Elegante Crater and completed a
hike to some great lava tubes after getting lost for a bit. He said he saw some
amazing wildlife, like the Mexican wolf and some jackrabbits.
**Joe took a few new ramblers, such a Jessica, up Bear Canyon hoping to
see water but there really wasn't any. Hikers did a little offroading on
the trail.
FUTURE HIKES:
***Steve might be planning a trip in the Santa Catalina's. Possibly up
Ventana or Romero Canyon. It will be a day long hike.
***Check the listserv for other posted hikes...
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Have a wonderful weekend...:)
