John Dicken - President

Hi, My name's John and I am a senior aat the UofA studying Molecular and Cellular Biology. Wildcats for Christ has really been a blessing in my life over the past few years, and I feel very honored to have the opportunity to serve as the President this year.  I grew up in a Christian family that taught me about God and the Bible from a very young age.  It was when I was six years old that I made a choice to completely surrender my life to Jesus and invite Him into my life.
At this time, there was a Bible study book that my parents did with me every morning.  This book went through and told every story in the Bible from the beginning to the end, but the story that was emphasized the most was the one about how Jesus died on the cross, and more importantly, why He died on the cross.  I learned about how all man is sinful, and that in the Bible it says that no man can enter heaven while he is sinful.  It says in the Bible that “the wages of sin is death.”  I realized even then that this verse was talking about me, and that I deserved to go to hell because of my sin.  But God did not want that to happen to anybody, and that’s why he sent His Son Jesus to live a sinless life and pay the price for our sin with His own life.  This was the Ultimate gift that God could give to us, and He did it out of love.  What He asks for in return is that we repent from our sin and let Jesus take control of our life.  I realized that it was not by having a Christian family, going to church every Sunday, or even just being a good person that I would go to heaven.  I realized that it was only through Jesus’ sacrifice that I would come to know God, and that after what He did for me, I needed to give Him my whole life.  I prayed right there that morning and repented for my sins, asking God to forgive me and take control of my life.
My choice to serve Jesus with my life was the best decision I ever made.  He has given me assurance of salvation, and He has in store for me a special calling and purpose that I know is greater than anything I could ever hope for or dream of on my own!  Wildcats for Christ has provided a way over the years for me to develop many great friendships with other Christians who love Jesus as much as I do.  It’s my hope that over the next year, this club would give many students the opportunity to come into some great Christian fellowship and come to know the same great God that I know and love and live for!
