Firstly, please allow us to provide a little background information for you.  Scorch is the UA Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team; since its inception in 2000 Scorch has been playing at a highly competitive level.  Our club involves over 40 women, from many diverse programs, pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that involves the athleticism of soccer, the strategy of basketball, and the field space of football, but is particularly unique because it incorporates “Spirit of the Game.” This quality of Ultimate allows players to rely on sportsmanship that encourages highly competitive and fair play, without the loss of respect among competitors.

On behalf of the University of Arizona Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Team, we would like to ask for your assistance in helping us achieve our goal of going to the Ultimate Players Association (UPA) Nationals tournament in May. This is a very expensive feat and your donations would be exponential to the growth of our season this spring.

Scorch is a very competitive team and has been nationally ranked since our inception; we are currently ranked 4th out of 180 women’s college teams in the US and Canada.  This season we are traveling to Colorado, Texas, and California for the most competitive tournaments in the nation.  We hope to place within the top four teams in our region in order to participate in the UPA College Nationals tournament in Columbus, Ohio.  In hopes of achieving this goal, players and coaches dedicate their time for practices, specialized clinics, and conditioning every week.  We are especially thankful to our coaches who volunteer their time to help Scorch.

Our team stems from the club sports sector of the university. However, club sports are only partially funded by the University. This lack of funding restricts our ability to achieve the high goals Scorch has set for this season. Our travel expenses and tournament fees may prevent our ability to compete at the highest level, particularly as our tournaments this year have expanded both in number and distance. However, in order to do well, these tournaments are imperative for our team’s success. Over the years, we have learned to travel as conservatively as possible.  Since our teammates pay most of their own way, our common practice is to drive in car pool caravans, stay at the host team’s houses using sleeping bags, and eating brown bag meals.  Unfortunately, due to rising costs in plane tickets, rental car expenses and hotel costs, players on the team are dipping into their savings more than ever.  The commitment necessary to the team and academics restricts most players to only a few hours of work per week, making saving for tournament costs difficult.

We are respectfully asking if you would be willing to help by donating money and/or products to Scorch for this season.  Any contribution will help exponentially in our attempt to go to Nationals.   Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, and your donation is also tax deductible!  Any donations can be written to UA Foundation-Women’s Ultimate Frisbee and sent to the address listed below.

Thank you for your support and consideration,
