First fundraising event of the semester will take place on Friday the 13th at the UMC in front of the Medical Library. We will be asking members to participate in helping sell baked goods or donating some for the event as a fundraising point. We ask you to email Natalie or Mona if you'd like donate some baked goods. Please also state what baked goods you will be bringing to prevent too many of the same items. We will also ask that people bring no more than a dozen per person and wrap two or three items per bag (colored saram wrap or such for Valentine's setting) depending on the size. ASTEC lab on May 5th in the College of Medicine

We will be having another opportunity for you guys to participate in the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) inside the College of Medicine on May 5th from 3 to 4pm.  What exactly is the ASTEC lab you ask?  It is a wonderful opportunity for you and nine other students to be instructed by an informed professional about the new technologies being developed to help train: “physicians, nurses, biomedical engineers and other professionals locally, nationally and internationally.”  Not only will you be able to see the new developments within this practice, but you will be able to perform hands-on with some of these new developments.

One of the favorite new technologies that will be available to you will be an actual human robotic simulation which has a heartbeat, veins, and some internal organ replications. On this human replica you will be able to practice your skills on performing a tracheotomy.  There will also be a full range of “virtual reality simulation equipment that will provide extensive real-time exposure to the anatomy and physiology of the human body, as well as manifestations of diseases, disorders and dysfunctions.”

Overall, this tour located in the College of Medicine, and will be a great way for students to become familiar with the college and actually get to meet professionals whom are willing to spend time teaching and discussing the new developments progressing in the health field.  The number of participants is limited so first come first served and priority will be given to FACES members. Email Andrew with your information if you are interested. His contact information is located on the Executive board page.
