About Psi Chi

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology.

Psi Chi was founded on September 4th, 1929, at the 9th International Congress of Psychology at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.

The purpose of Psi Chi is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. These aims are summarized in the two Greek words Psyche and Cheires. Psyche may suggest mind, or the scholarship and enrichment of the mind. Cheires, meaning hands, stands for fellowship and research. Therefore, Psyche Cheires, may be expressed as cooperation in the investigation and cultivation of the mind.

The U of A chapter celebrated its 51st anniversary in February 2008
