Devotions Every Friday Pastor Ron and fellow students from our leadership team send out weekly devotions over the LCM listserv. Below is one of our recent devotions. 10/5/07 Stressed? Tired? Exhausted? Frazzled? Feeling as if there's not enough time in the day to get everything accomplished?... Trust me, I definitely understand. Sometimes in our busy lives it appears that life is nothing more than just a set of 'to do's that go on continually from day to passing day. With so many distractions that encompass our 10,080 minutes per week, how much of that time do you spend just relating with others and God? Sure, I understand that many of us are driven people that have goals, ambitions, passions, and desires; and justifiably, it takes a lot of work to get it all done. But, let's be honest, what gets us through the many mundane and work-ridden moments is not the opportunity to work on yet another essay, rather it is the opportunity to live through another unforgettable experience. I want you to think of this question as you read through this: how many unforgettable moments have you allowed to quietly pass by? Have you followed your heart, or your schedule? I am by no means a good example, as I have also allowed pragmatism, and to some degree fear, to rule over some decisions I have made. But, let us remember that working continually without end was not God's intention for us. It may be a means to get things done, but not an end to itself. If an example through the Bible is what you would prefer, let me remind you of one of my favorite passages. One day, after a tremendous day at work, Jesus tells the apostles, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." (Mark 6:30-31) Yes, even Jesus sat down and took a moment for himself! If you think you don't have time to do the same, think of this moment. In conclusion, this is a reminder to take some time to just sit back and relax a bit even when things get hectic or it feels like you can't even breathe. The world will continue to turn (I promise) and that essay WILL get done (I hope). This is not an excuse to slack, just a reminder to take a moment, take a breath, and follow your spirit when it matters.
